W3C - World Wide Web Consortium

W3C is an abbreviated term for the World Wide Web Consortium. (3 W's and the C... hence W3C... clever!)

The W3C is the international standards commission for the World Wide Web and was founded in 1994 by Tim Berners-Lee, the creator and inventor of the Internet. The W3C is arranged as a consortium of members who are responsible for setting and developing standards for the internet as a whole. W3C has many offices around the World.

The W3C also acts as an outreach and provides education, develops software and provides an open forum where anyone can discuss and ask questions related to the World Wide Web.
