FAQ - What is Firefox?
Firefox is a program that allows you to browse websites, or to use it's proper terminology, an internet browser.
Firefox was made as an alternative to the Microsoft program Internet Explorer (IE) if you're using Windows as your operating system, but if you have an Apple Mac, Firefox is an alternative to Safari. It does everything and more than IE and claims to be even more secure and faster than IE.
The creators of Firefox, Mozilla, brought out Firefox as a replacement for IE and Safari to fulfil a need for a better, faster and more secure way of browsing the internet. Firefox is and always has been free to download and can be set up within just a few minutes. Firefox is literally packed with some amazing features which are all available for download for free. These features are mainly user submitted, meaning that those who use Firefox has come up with custom extensions, or programs that work within Firefox.
These 'add-ons' for Firefox are available for anyone to download and are very simple to install onto your machine. So simple, within a couple of clicks you're done. Add-ons start with customising the look and layout of your browser, or again to use the correct terminology, Skins. It's almost like you change the skin of Firefox to suit your own taste. Other extensions, or add-ons available are clocks, Google toolbars, download tools, web developer tools and many thousands more.

The First image shows Firefox in it's natural state (on my machine anyway!) which is a nice clean brushed aluminium skin. The second image shows a drop down menu of sites you can search directly from Firefox. the third and final image shows a recently closed tab thumbnail toolbar. You can also notice I have a Google toolbar on my Firefox, allowing me to search without leaving the website I'm on at the time.
Firefox offers standard features such as Tabbed Browsing, Home Page, Security and privacy function and much more.
